These are my confessions

Today I'm linking up with Catalyn at Confessions of a Northern Belle to share my confessions.

#1. I gave up soda for Lent. I've cheated twice. I drank a Sprite in the middle of the night and then yesterday I had a cherry coke (and a marshmallow bunny) at 10am. I blame hormones.

#2. I do not know how to throw a small party. I told Colson that he could have a few classmates over for his birthday...somehow we've now invited 20 kids.

#3. Once I start a project, I can't stop. I got it in my mind that I wanted to print and organize the photos for Colson, Lilly-Belle, and Sam. My confession: I haven't printed pictures in 3 1/2 years. 450 pictures later and I'm only through 2010 for Colson and LB. Sam is up to date. :)

That's all I've got for today. Happy Wednesday!

Catalyn's Questions
1. What is your favorite movie?
I'd have to say Dirty Dancing...perfection!

2. Did you sleep with a stuffed animal/blanket growing up? If so, did it have a name?
I don't think I did, but I did have my two baby dolls (Hannah and Katie) that I took everywhere and were my real babies. I've always been a mother at heart. Lilly-Belle is their mommy now.

3. What is your favorite flower?
Easy. Tulips! They make me think of Springtime, which is such a happy time.

4. Did you have a signature scent in high school? What was it?
Not really. I wore Gap Dream and Heaven body spray if anything.

5. What food do you turn to after a bad day?
Chocolate. Chocolate candy. Chocolate iced doughnuts. Chocolate milk. Chocolate in any form is my food therapy.
6. What is one item of clothing you could not live without?
Not really clothing, but my Frye boots. I love them so.
7. Ugliest piece of clothing in your closet?
This dress. I bought it after my second child when nothing fit. I don't know why.
...and yeah, I can't rotate it. It's prettier this way. :)

8. How did you meet your best friend?
I have several very close friends, but the very first one I met was my friend Camey and we were in Kindergarten together.
9. How did you find out there was no Easter Bunny?
Honestly, I can't remember.

It's Okay

It's time for It's Okay Thursday!

It's okay that I have about 3 1/2 year's worth of pictures to print and put into albums...thanks Shutterfly for the 100 free prints. That will put a chip in the mountain of a project!

It's okay to keep your baby in a cap to hide the multiple scratches he's inflicted upon himself. STOP SCRATCHING!!

It's okay that it was really (I mean, really) hard to resist buying a pair of Toms on Zulily yesterday. But I did resist.

It's okay that I'm addicted to these little treats...and that I don't want to share them with anyone.

It's okay that I spent half an hour last night watching Harlem Shake videos. The first one I saw is still my favorite.

Sam at Two Months

Technically he's two and a half months now, but here is Mister Samuel's two month stats:

Weight: 11lb 10oz
Length: 23 inches
Sleep: His first stretch of sleep in the evenings will be 5-6 hours and then 3 hours after that.
Awake: He likes to lay on his play mat or be held and walked around during his wake time.  We love to use the moby wrap for those times when he wants some extra "hold me" time.

Eating: Nursing is going great, but he isn't the biggest fan of the bottle. We're going to try some different kinds to see if there's one he'd prefer over the Similac bottle we've been trying.

Other fun facts: He gets up about 5:30 every morning and gets in the bed with me and Nick for some snuggle time.

He started smiling at about 7 weeks and is now beginning to coo and laugh.

He is definitely a Mama's boy!!

Parenting (a redhead) is Hard Work!

I should start by saying that I love this little girl with every bone in my body, but heaven knows she tests the limits of my patience sometimes.

I've said it before...this poem perfectly describes my Lilly-Belle:
There once was a girl with a strawberry curl
Right in the middle of her forehead.
And when she was good, she was very very good,
And when she was bad, she was horrid!

She can be the sweetest, most loving little doll but her independent spirit will just about drive you insane at times. She's not mean or violent or rude. She simply does what she wants. Period.

We've tried a multitude of things to try and correct her behavior, but none seem to have a lasting effect. At this point, I'd like to say that she is a sweet angel at school, so thank goodness for that, but we've got to change some things at home.

The teacher in me decided to implement a behavior chart.

I'm thinking something visual and where she has to physically move her butterfly down will help her see and remember the choices she's made. If she stays on the first three steps then she will earn a sticker for the day. Three "happy days" (not necessarily in a row) and she can get a little treat like a piece of candy or and extra cartoon. I also want the time out to be a way to think about what she's doing rather than a punishment. The punishment begins when she loses tv time or has to go to bed early. No smileys on these days. We shall see how this works.

While I was in chart making mode, I crafted this little meal chart too.

My darling is a perpetual snacker. She will eat one thing after another if she isn't fully engaged by me (which is hard for me with an infant), so now she can see what our meals look like. After each meal or snack she moves her spoon. And this way we don't need to have a yogurt, then a banana, then an oatmeal cookie, and then what can I eat now?

Like I said, parenting is hard work...but it's my favorite job ever!

How to eat cheesecake (the healthy way)

So, last weekend my mom and I went to Charlotte so she could get a pair of "birthday boots" (which are beautiful and I wish we wore the same size!) and I took her to eat at the Cheesecake Factory for her birthday dinner. Nick and I have been eating pretty well at home and I've promised to try to not sabotage this lifestyle with my love of sweets.

Well...as we're eating dinner I decide that I should offer to bring him a piece of cheesecake because it'd just be rude to not at least offer.

So I call him: "Not to try to tempt you or anything, but do you want me to bring you a piece of cheesecake?"

Nick: Let me do a little checking and see what the damage would be.

Fair enough. Then I get this text:

Nick: No thanks on the cheesecake. Only about 1100 calories per slice.

I share this info with Mom, but that doesn't make us want it any less. So I leave with a piece of Snickers cheesecake. Of course, I have to have one bite before we leave the restaurant.

Now here's where you learn how to eat cheesecake the healthy way.

You eat one bite before leaving. You walk off those calories hiking through the mall and back to the car.

You offer your husband a bite when you get home. Another 100 calories gone.

You eat 1/2 of the remaining cheesecake before bed. So you've really only banked 450 calories.

Then when you get up at 3am (to feed a baby or whatever) you eat the rest. It's technically the next day so those calories go on that day.

See, not that bad for you at all. I can justify anything!
